Fare-Thee-Well Dame Elizabeth Taylor

In case you haven't noticed, I'm a little obsessed with movies, and old school starlets', yes, indeed, there is something nostalgic about these divas of a bygone era.  Glamorous, styled to perfection, softly spoken...I know, the on-screen persona is not what you get off-camera, but like I keep saying, I'm a romantic, -I like to think these ladies were well-mannered at all times, ahem.

This week, the passing of Liz Taylor bought back memories of rainy afternoons spent reclining on my sofa, watching 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, - my favourite of her movies, sassy and sizzling, as all good siren's should be.  I mean, who wouldn't act like a pent up cat, having to sit opposite Mr Dreamboat himself, aka Paul Newman?

Another thought crossed my mind, -who would replace her?  Do we even make stars the way we used to?  These days, we have overnight sensations who are like, 12 years old, cue-that-Bieber- kid...what? He's like, 17?  Still...you know what I mean, those kids, who just keep popping up.  'Pop-up' acts.  Very temporary.  My attempts to ponder this question were futile, it's a no-brainer, the only figure who popped into my tiny grey matter, was the stylish Julianne Moore, always, always looking old school glam...thanks to good genes, and her BFF Mr Tom Ford.  Anyway, I digress - what I wanted to say was this...

Fare-Thee-Well Dame Elizabeth Taylor!  Thank you, for being a wonderful supporter of charity, and for speaking your mind, you great big fabulous Hollywood-Icon-of-Yesteryear!

A/N: Secretly, I'm hoping Ms Taylor is reunited with Mr Burton.  They belong together.  That is all.
How are you all?  This week has been super busy, I've been editing, re-writing, re-reading.  Tomorrow, I shall be up early writing as I'm off to see a play in the evening with a dear old friend - very excited about that.  Cocktails at the ready!  How about you? How's your writing project, and what's going down in your neck of the woods?
Have a fabulous friday and a wonderful weekend!

I'm hoping she's reunited with the lovely Mr Burton too. As you say, they belong together.

Have a great weekend!
I like the pictures you chose for this post. Very Hollywood glamour, and beautiful shots of a real star. I'm trying to think who could replace her.... No, sorry, I got nothing. Hollywood is a different world than it was back then. Now people like to see the stars as everyday people eating ice cream, carrying diaper bags and wearing sweats.

So sad to lose her. She was beautiful, and such a talented actress!

Although Liz was not my favorite actress (Audrey Hepburn!), she was an icon and we DON'T have anymore stars like her! Hollywood doesn't know how to make real stars anymore, they just make today's headlines and when the novelty is over, they are cast aside.

Sounds like you have a lovely weekend planned! Happy writing!

Oh and love the new picture of you on your blog! It's lovely!!
I like the fact that she was fashionably late to her own funeral. That is my kinda classy gal.

I've been surprised at how little I've read in the blogosphere about her passing. Thanks for this post. I really admired her. She was a special lady and one of the remaining real stars as opposed to the modern celebrity.

As Joanna says, a 'classy gal.'

Shirley, I'd like to think so. You know when a pair belong together right? ;-) Fab w/end to you too dear lady!

Karen, Very true, we don't need to see sweaty betty's and latte cups every week? Glad you like these pictures, carefully selected, my friend. *winks* Bring back the old Hollywood Glam!

Meredith, indeed, totally agree and she was quite a sassy lady, I love that! ;-)

Danette, Oh I heart Audrey! Definitely think Hollywood is missing the old style glamour. I think Julianne Moore is fab though, also Cate Blanchett.

My new profile pic? *blushes* Thank you. Yup. Felt it was time to stop hiding behind the sunnies. Shall keep until I can get my brother (artist extraordinaire) to snap a few for me.

Joanna, I LOVED that too, amazing to put that specify that. *makes note to herself*

Denise, agreed! Yup, I've noticed not too much on the blogosphere, I couldn't resist though. Classy and sassy. <3

Karen,

Haha! You are so right! Angelina rocks really, a little misunderstood but she's a smart cookie methinks. Hollywood would not be Hollywood without a whiff of scandalous gossip. ;-)

Thanks so much for stopping by, lovely to meet you!

Nowadays fame and stardom are often so fleeting. I have a difficult time keeping up with who's who as it is let alone keeping up with every new next-best-thing that comes along.

I heard on the news that she was buried with letters that Tim Burton wrote her 30 years ago. They said she kept them on her nightstand all those years, and never let anyone else read them. THAT is true love. Does my heart good to hear that.

They don't make 'em like they used to, that's for sure...

But I am a little mystified that with the tsunami of men who paraded through her life, everyone thinks the Taylor/Burton romance (only ten years long) was such a great love story...

But a well-written post nonetheless!
