Q is for Queen
Challenging myself to post daily for the month of April has been extremely rewarding in many ways, I have met many new faces, lovely ones too, -plus it's provided much exercise for my grey cells, which lets face it, could do with a Spring clean. An entire Alphabet, one letter for each day except Sundays, pretty impressive I thought. Hard slog, my Inner Muse shuddered. And, so last night, I tossed sleeplessly, smoky letters floated above my head, -what to post for the letter Q?
I pondered long and hard, - how about quirky? Yes, I could do that, and then 'query' slipped into my subconscious, -yes! But no! I've not queried yet so best leave that. A further jumble of Q's spilt forth from my spongy brain onto the pillow, a downloading of random code flashing matrix style in my minds eye. Quercus. click. Quintessential. click. Quiver. click. Quixote. click. Queer. * raises polished eyebrow * click. Queen....Queen? Yes. Queen, that's it. Stop the matrix, I've found my Q for tomorrow. And, then I fell into a deep slumber. Only to be awoken minutes later, by an orchestra of birds, outside my window. They were playing Beethoven's 5th. I like drama in the mornings. And, if I'm not mistaken so does my favourite Queen.
We encounter many Queens in storybooks, it's hard to pick a favourite and I must confess, despite their wickedness, I do love the bad girls, they're just misunderstood and in need of love, right? Snow White's awful Stepmother, in search of eternal youth; the Ice Queen aka White Witch from Narnia, she has wonderful taste in fur, I can't fault that. My most favourite of all favourites is...
"I pictured to myself the Queen of Hearts as a sort of embodiment of ungovernable passion - a blind and aimless Fury. The Red Queen I pictured as Fury, but of another type; her passion must be cold and calm - she must be form and strict, yet not unkindly; pedantic to the 10th degree, the concentrated essence of all governesses!" - Lewis Carroll, in 'Alice on the Stage'
