E is for Ernest...

Hemingway, that is.
A man's got to take a lot of punishment to write a really funny book' - Ernest Hemingway

Mr Hemingway, -Sir, to we plebeians, and well, just Mr H to his nearest and dearest.  I made that last bit up.  You can call him what you like, just make it a good name.  Ernest Hemingway, an amazing journalist, a talented author -and a lover of life...yes, despite the tragic ending, I think he lived an incredible life.
'Madame, all stories, if continued far enough, end in death,
and he is no true-story teller who would keep that from you.'
 - Ernest Hemingway'
Actually, I have another confession to make...I'm obsessed with Paris, -I've always dreamt of living the life of an artist, painting for a pittance...and well, that would never work - but the idea of being Parisian and creating great works of art...it's something I've wanted since a young child, a long, long...just ages ago.
'Prose is architecture, not interior decoration, and the Baroque is over' - Ernest Hemingway
I blame Hemingway, I blame Picasso, I blame Monet, I blame all the fabulous writers and artists that I read about as a young girl -they're the inspiration behind the Paris dream.  Of course, 1920's or 30's Paris is not the same as 2011 Paris, but still...
'There is nothing to writing.  All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.. - Ernest Hemingway
I may not live there, but I visit often and it's still my favourite city in Northern Europe...Thank you Mr H and Co.
'An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time with his fools.' -Ernest Hemingway
'Courage is grace under pressure.' -Ernest Hemingway

'You're beautiful, like a May fly.'
 -Ernest Hemingway

How about you? Any aspirations of living bohemian style in Paris circa 1930's?

When I'm down, I read Hemingway. His prose calms me down, even when he's describing bullfights. Thanks for posting this!

Have spent a lot of time Paris and it remains one of my favorite cities. Granted, I've never had to work and live there and maybe it wouldn't be the same but I still sometimes have daydreams about one day settling there (or in a little French town somewhere).

Damyanti - you're welcome, so pleased you enjoyed! Hemingway is inspirational. Sometimes when I read certain works, I feel like I should have been born in another time.

Goodandbadjapan - J'adore! I travel there for work sometimes but the best trips are for pleasure and catching up with friends. I will never tire of Paris, never...

I have a very romanticized view of Paris - I'm sure it feels like any other city. But to go back in time would be cool.
I live about ten minutes outside of Paris and I don't see the city itself nearly enough. My husband goes to work in central paris everyday and would kill me if I made him go one his day off:( That said, I still stand and look at the architecture in awe thinking 'I can't believe I live here'.

I've never been to Paris but would like to see it today instead of in the 30s.

No can't say I've thought about living in Paris. And though I respect Hemingway, I'm not a fan. Got me in trouble with a college prof when I wrote a report after reading something of his and I wasn't glowing. Of course he was a huge Hemingway fan. Of course he gave me a C, though there was nothing wrong with my writing. It was my opinion he didn't like. I dropped out of his class.
Really interesting post
Always wanted to live bohemian lifestyle as an artist in Paris!

Visited Hemingway House last summer and enjoyed seeing the six-toes cats that are descendants of his cats.

I haven't made it to Paris yet...I hope to one day very soon! I probably couldn't live the Bohemian lifestyle, though. I like my creature comforts too much!
Hemingway s one of my mood writers. -- Certain moods have certain writers.

Sorry it's been awhile. This whole A-Z thing is ca-razy!
Hemingway was such an interesting person (what with his being an ambulance driver and collecting 6 toed cats!). I would have loved to meet him:P

I used to read quite a bit of Hemmingway. And we want to take a trip to Paris. I want to write a book with the setting in Paris.

I would LOVE to be an artist in Paris and just think what it would have been like to be in Paris with all the American expats! I personally would have killed to be around Fitzgerald at that time- but the whole movement was so exciting! Great post!

I've had that bohemian in Paris dream. HGTV has almost convinced me I wouldn't enjoy the accommodations too much though. Other than that, it's all still mysterious and interesting to me.

Oh, plebeians are we? That's funny. I love reading Hemmingway, he's one of my favorites.

I came by just to say hello and see how you’re doing. Have a nice weekend.

You know he's the proof that writing and living can go along pretty well. That man had no fear!
